Only 20 km away from Casa Medievală guest house, one of the most well-known and gorgeous mediaeval fortified citadels in Romania – Negru Vodă Citadel (Poenari Castle) is found on Cetățuia Peak. To reach it, one must climb 1,480 steps through a charming beech tree forest, yet, once there, the landscape will reward visitors with truly amazing views.

The citadel was the last refuge of Prince Vlad Țepeș (Vlad the Impaler), before his departure to Transylvania. It was one of the main fortifications that helped our ancestors win their final fights against the Ottoman Empire. Significant restoration works were carried out between 1969 and 1972, when the citadel’s walls were consolidated and access steps finished, allowing for safe visits done in very good conditions through the entire citadel. Up there, among its ruins, tourists will be able to recharge their batteries and renew their souls by viewing singular landscapes bathed in wilderness and splendor.
